Do chat AI's use what info we tell it?

Main Post:

For example, ive been using the Facebook messenger ai to vent too. Sort if like a diary that can give basic reassurance, or asking it to compare two tv shows.

My friend says I shouldn't talk to this ai like this and I'm giving it too much information about myself.

How does stuff like this work? Can it do that ?

*edit fixed typo

Top Comment: What do you mean "Can it do that?" If you're asking if it can give reassurance or tv show reviews, it can give probabilistic assumptions of what it thinks the right answer is based on how you asked the question and what the consensus was around the time of it's training. If you're asking if it's using that data against you in any way, or "remembering" whatever you give it, it's probably not, or not for very long anyways. These LLM's are trained once, and deployed. They must be trained and updated in order to give any real different answer. It's fine to talk to them, ask them questions, or even confide in them, but you have to realize that these models are nothing more than a word calculator. They don't actually think, they just recite a mathematical computation that happens to be readable in english.

What log info should I have on/off in my chat windows? (Also what do you have on/off)

Main Post:

I find that between myself, the enemy and 5 trusts fighting and casting spells my chat log is spammed with so much information that it's completely useless.

My problem atm is that Ive been solo since the start trying to catch up to the point where I can attempt endgame/party stuff that I don't know what information is important and what isnt.

Do I just turn everything off but me and the enemy so I can see my damage/casts and theirs or do I need more on to see what it ia my party is doing so that I can accomodate for it?

Side question is there a way to know how long my enfeebles last on the enemy?

Top Comment: I usually turn on anything involving "by others" and "by NPC" just play around with them till u find what u like. If you're playing on windower i believe there is an add on that will show a timer for your enfeebles. If you're not playing on windower i would highly suggest it solely on the improvement of graphic quality and frame rate.

Chat Logs info

Main Post:

Halp! So I have 2 separate accounts and I can find my alt accounts chat logs in C:\Users\ ME\Documents\EVE\logs\Chatlogs.

This is my alts account chatlogs. Is there a separate folder where I could find my main account's chat logs?

Top Comment: do a windows search for your main characters name

I get a "something went wrong and Chat information can't be loaded" error message when entering Chats.

Main Post:

I seem to get this error message when clicking on Chats that use the old UI as opposed to the new one, which sucks 'cause I have two friends I like talking to. On those Chats, our profile pictures are blank and while I can see texts and images we've sent, I cannot make new messages or send images to them. I have cleared cache and updated the app but it hasn't fixed the problem. I could try to leave the Chats and reenter them but the only options I have are to hide, block, or mute them.

Reddit chat is not safe as you think!

Main Post:

Hello to Reddit chat users!

As you know, Reddit Chat has the ability to create a group for the purpose of communicating with more than two people at the same time.

I'm a moderator on a subreddit where, until a year ago, communication between moderators was exclusively through Mod Discussions (to be fair, there wasn't much communication until then).

On my initiative, we switched to Reddit chat and I created two mod groups there (one for serious stuff, one for everything else).

Half a year ago, three moderators stopped being moderators, and accordingly they were removed from both mod groups.

You probably know that Reddit has publicly released a new and modern version of the chats, which were previously under Legacy Chats.

A few days ago, Reddit completely switched to a new form of chat, and that's where the problem comes in - most of the conversations that weren't started this year have disappeared.

However, although at first it seems that these chats have completely disappeared - I would not say that this is exactly the case.

An ex-mod (who was removed from both groups 6 months ago) contacted me and stated that he requested a copy of data Reddit has about his account. What is shocking is the fact that among the data there is a full transcript of the same mod group from which he was removed 6 months ago. So, even though he was removed a long time ago, he still has insight into the most recent messages, so not only up to the period when he was in the group.

Even worse, there are links in the transcript (i.redd.it) that lead to pictures that we sent to each other in the group chat. The worst part is that some of the pictures contain personal information that some users mistakenly sent us for the purpose of AMA verification. This was sent as a screenshot for the other mods because some of them were not able to see Modmail normally in the official app (is there anything that loads normally in that official app?). Luckily, we switched mod communication to Discord about a month ago.

And the best part - Reddit also stores deleted chat messages.

Of course, the report was sent to Reddit, but I'm not hoping for a better response than "Thanks for the report, our eng team is working hard on it!".

Is this the quality that Reddit provides to users after forcing them to use the official app?

Top Comment: Someone having access to chats that they are no longer a part of via reddit data request is a huge bug imo. Surely that is not on purpose.

New “Start Chatting” feature on Reddit

Main Post:

Hi everyone,

We wanted to give you a heads up about a new feature that we are launching this week called “Start Chatting.” This past month, as people around the world have been at home under various shelter-in-place restrictions, redditors have been using chat at phenomenal new levels. Whether it’s about topics related to COVID-19, local news, or just their favorite games and hobbies, people all around the world are looking for others to talk to. Since Reddit is in a unique position to help in this situation, we’ve created a new tool that makes it easier to find other people who want to talk about the same things you do.

Redditors can visit a community and click on the ‘Start Chatting’ prompt, which will then match them with other members of that community in a small group chat. In our testing, we’ve already seen some interesting use cases for Start Chatting, such as meeting new people within conversation-oriented communities, discussing cliffhangers from the latest episode in our TV show communities, or finding others to game with online. We’re excited to see other use cases emerge as more and more redditors get access to this feature.

A Mobile View of r/AnimalCrossing with the Start Chatting Prompt

Start Chatting begins rolling out today and will become available to even more communities in the coming weeks.

For more information, please refer to the Start Chatting Help Center article that answers common questions about the feature and has details on how to report abuse.

Let us know if you have any questions or feedback!

Is there a way to opt out for my subreddit(s) that I manage?

You're basically asking for a scenario where users violate subreddit rules where moderators cannot have any oversight over.

Is it normal in Reddit to be invited to chat by a stranger?

Main Post:

I joined Reddit just a few days ago and have just post some posts. Today, I see a notification which says some stranger whom I don't know "wants to chat". I did read some guidelines here, but I can't remember seeing anything mentioned about "chat". Is this usual, or is it a spam?

More generally, what is a general guidelines about chatting in Reddit? (Sorry if my question sounds stupid, but I do not play social media much, so even if it is obvious, please advice.)

EDIT: After reading the guide more carefully, there seems to be some mentions about this in "Part 7: Safety on Reddit" item 5, "Direct Messages and Chat Requests". So maybe I should use that as a guideline. I was just alarmed by a seemingly unusual situation. It is still good to see all the opinions, of course!
